When buying authentic gold-filled jewelry, customers should keep the following factors in mind:

• Jewelry labeled as "18k or 24k gold filled" is NOT authentically made in the USA. Real gold-filled jewelry is typically made with 14k gold, which has a lighter yellow hue.
• Stainless steel jewelry with a PVD coat is NOT real gold-filled jewelry; it is a much lower quality metal that is not skin-safe as it contains harmful chemicals.
• Any jewelry, especially rings that have been cast, is NOT gold-filled. Gold-filled jewelry is generally made from wires, chains, and sheets.
• Gold-filled is NOT less expensive than sterling silver. Due to the amount of real gold coated on the metal, the price of gold-filled is generally higher than 925 silver.
